allow user to digitize scalable embroidery designs up to 60 x 60 centimeters (23.6 x 23.6") large.
Design is digitized so that user creates outline (vector) objects either on a blank background or
on an image (template). When finished, design is compiled into stitches and put into Embird
Editor for final adjustment and save in desired embroidery format.
Designs are created in a vector form using lines and curves. Picture can be imported
as a template into background of working area. To store designs, Studio uses its own
file format with all objects, parameters, stitches and background image stored in a
single file (*.eof).
Objects such as Fill, Sfumato*, Carving, Column, Column with pattern, Outline,
Connection, Appliqué and Manual Stitches are available. Fill and Sfumato objects
can have openings. Carving objects can be used to add unique texture to fills and
columns. Objects can be moved, rotated, skewed and scaled without loss of quality.
* Sfumato 4.0 is an optional part of Studio. It must be purchased separately.
Trace tool allows to convert bitmap image (raster image) to vector design without
redrawing the image manualy. Trace tool works in a several steps: 1. selection of
consistently coloured area (pixels of raster image) with magic wand, 2. turnig of
selected raster areas into vector objects, 3. filling vector objects with stitches. It is
possible to create outline, column, fill, sfumato and carving objects. Selection options
allow to change the way of how the Trace tool behaves by each selection. It is
possible to define whether to make new selection and discard any existing selection
or add objects of different color to selection, select non-contiguous areas of the
same color at once, subtract object from selection or intersect the object from selection.
Interactive lettering allows to insert and edit text directly in the work area of Studio.
Text can be created with Font Engine (True Type and Open Type fonts) or with
pre-digitized Alphabets. Lettering supports multiline text and adjustable text baselines.
Predefined baselines include circle, lines and spirals. All baselines can be transformed
(moved, scaled, rotated and slanted) and/or as edited node-by-node. Whole text or
individual characters can be moved, scaled, rotated and slanted as well. Additional
controls allow to adjust spacing of characters, words and lines and overall size of the text.
Envelope Tool allows to deform selected object(s) in the work area of Studio with
use of adjustable boundary. Options like predefined shape, type of horizontal and
vertical edges and symmetry options are available from panel at the right side of
the screen.
Fills with multiple motifs. Studio allows to use several motifs within a single fill.
Setting of desired number of rows and columns defines a grid of motifs that will
be used to fill the object. Multiple motifs can be combined with all options
available for single motif like scale, shift, fill angle, wave and gradient.
Integrated Sew Simulator in Studio allows to simulate sewing of whole design or
just selection in a normal, 3D or flat view mode. Color bar at top of the screen
helps to 'rewind' simulation forward and backward. It is possible to set negative
speed for simulation, which means that stitches gradually disappear.
Freehand tool allows to create realistic fur or shading effects as well as sketch
drawings with mouse or digitizing tablet within a few minutes. It works like a
painting tool. Result, however, is an embroidery design that can include various
embroidery styles like fills, columns, sfumato objects, carvings and outlines as
well as some new stitch styles like pressure-sensitive columns.
Object Inspector window is available for fast and easy management of objects.
User can change the color of object or its order by simple drag-and-drop operation.
Objects can be grouped to make manipulations easier. Icons in Object Inspector
indicate color changes, trims, object type and visibility.
To make digitized objects and stitches more visible on the background, user can
adjust brightness, contrast, gamma correction, colors balance and saturation of
the background image. There are also tools for rotation, cropping and resizing
of the background image.
Digitizing Tools create not only cover stitches for each object, but also various
types of underlay: center walk, edge walk, and zig-zag underlay to stabilize
embroidered objects.
Digitizing Tools perform many editing operations automatically. Connection
paths are rearranged when user moves objects, sharp corners of columns are
automatically split or folded when converted to stitches, fill overlays are
adjusted according to size of object.
Sfumato Stitch allows easy and fast creation of multicolored portraits and other designs
from photos.
User imports photo into the background of the working area and then draws Sfumato
objects on top of the photo. Just like other objects in the Studio, Sfumato objects have
vector boundaries that are automatically filled with stitches. Each Sfumato object can
have 1-5 shades of its 'basic color'. Sfumato objects can have openings and carvings,
just like the fill objects in the Studio. Objects are filled with stitches so that thread
forms looser or heavier meanders to create shading effects while fabric shows through
stitches.
New Sfumato is integrated into Studio (no separate download needed). Because of its
vector-based approach, it is supposed to enable user to create Sfumato portraits and
designs several times faster than with the previous version.
Embird Cross Stitch allows user to digitize cross stitch designs with up to 400 x 400 crosses.
Number of colors is limited to 254. Cross Stitch plug-in is installed together with Embird,
no additional download or installation needed. However, you will have to purchase and
register Cross Stitch separatelly from main Embird program, otherwise there is a stitch
limit for every design you create. After purchase and insertion of registration password,
evaluation version turns into full version. Use "Editor -> Insert -> Cross Stitch Design"
command to access Cross Stitch.
Font Engine 5.0 is a Plug-in for Embird 2003 and above Embird Font Engine is a tool
for conversion of text made with TrueType or OpenType font into an embroidery design.
There are many adjustable lettering parameters such as size, density, fill and outline
modes as well as characters layout and deformations in Font Engine. When finished,
lettering is compiled into stitches and put into Embird Editor for final adjustment and
save in desired embroidery format. Font Engine is accessible also from Studio's interactive
lettering. When used from Studio, Font Engine produces text in a vector (outline) form
that can be further edited in Studio.
Please note: Font Engine does not include any font. It is a conversion program.
Our other product, Embird Alphabets, is a lettering system totally different to
Font Engine. Alphabets are predigitized embroidery fonts.

There are two ways of creating designs in the Cross Stitch software:
1. Design is created manually by drawing dots (crosses) either on a
blank background or on an image (template, scanned chart).
2. Design is created automatically (autodigitizing) from imported
background image.
In both cases, program automatically generates stitches in crosses
and arranges them to optimize the sewing process. It is possible to
import the scanned chart (hand graph) and calibrate it properly to fit
the background of work area, then manually draw the dots (crosses)
using the chart in the background and finally compile the design into
stitches.
Many editing tools are available for creation and adjustment of designs: marquee, lasso,
magic wand, zoom lens, eye dropper, smooth, pencil, brush, air-brush, text, line, simple
curve, rectangle, round rectangle, ellipse, star, regular polygon, fill area, clear area, etc.
The pre-defined fill patterns are available, and user can even create his/her own fill
patterns. There are also some special functions like 'Clear isolated points' or ' thin lines'
and 'Smooth' parts by adding quarter crosses to corners, which allow user to clear and
optimize the cross stitch design. The order in which the colors are sewn can be prescribed.
Add text to your designs with use of any TrueType(tm) or
OpenType(tm) font intalled on your PC. Choose font, color
and size and create lettering in a few seconds. Crosses are
automatically generated inside of characters. By choosing
another command from menu it is possible to easily add the
outlines around all characters.
All popular cross types are supported:
- normal crosses
- mini-crosses
- elongated horizontal crosses
- elongated vertical crosses
- upright crosses
- double crosses
- French knots
- manual and automatic outlines
Use full, 3/4, half or quarter crosses to create your design. Also,
thin running-stitch outline can be added around the design
manually or automatically. Controls like 'number of thread
layers', 'size' of crosses and 'number of tie-up stitches' are
available to give you full control over the design. See also tutorial
explaining Cross Stitch and How to Create Simple Cross Stitch
Design.
Select TrueType or OpenType font and type the
text you want to convert into embroidery. Adjust
size and other parameters of text in Properties tab.
Font Engine can produce plain fill, auto
column (satin stitch) and motif fills and
sample, satin and applique outlines for text.
Font Engine produces lettering in a large size scale, from about 5 milimeters (1/5") up
to 30 cm (12"). There is no separate installation file for Font Engine. Evaluation
version is included in every installation of Embird. However, you will have to purchase
and register Font Engine separatelly from the main Embird program, otherwise only
several characters are available in every font. After purchase and insertion of
registration password, evaluation version turns into full version. No additional
download or installation needed. Use "Editor -> Insert -> Font Engine Text" command
to access Font Engine.
Use Fill Exterior function to invert filled
areas of text
Pattern, Wave, Gradient and other effects like
contour or circular fill can be applied to plain fill
of text.
Font Engine allows user to place text on line,
ellipse and other baselines and also to deform
it with use of an envelope.
Characters may have single stitch, sample, satin
stitch or applique outline.
Each character in a text can be moved,
rotated, skewed and scaled separately to
create unique lettering effects. Use
Symmetry options for easier adjustment of
envelope. Many predefined envelopes are
included.
Auto Column (satin stitches) fill of text produces
lettering looking almost as if it was digitized by a
human digitizer. Font Engine uses large base of
digitizers knowledge and an artificial intelligence to
convert fonts into satin stitches.
Satin stitches lettering of large size should be used
with Pattern option on, to avoid too long stitches
and to add texture to a large stitched areas.

Iconizer works together with Microsoft® Windows® Explorer, the application which is present in
every installation of Windows 95 and above and with other Windows programs. The principle of
Iconizer plug-in is simple: normally, when you run Explorer and you are not using the Iconizer
plug-in, each design file is represented by an universal "type" icon. Registered Iconizer plug-in will
show a small icon of the embroidery design instead. This allows you to browse and sort your designs
easily, because you can see the contents of embroidery files (Fig. 1) while using all the great features
of Microsoft® Windows® Explorer and other Windows programs.
Warning: Iconizer plug-in does not works only with 32-bit version of Windows Explorer in 64-bit
edition of Windows Vista. Find more details in FAQ list.
Please Note: Iconizer plug-in supports only those embroidery formats that are supported in Embird
software.

Use the "Large Icons" view to obtain the best results, otherwise the icons may be too
small. In Explorer, click on "View -> Large Icons" command. (Fig. 1). Please note that
you can have also larger icons: Specify the icon size in "Iconizer Settings" dialog box in
Embird Options menu. The default size is 32.
Iconizer is available in demo version that displays only part of embroidery designs on
icons. The rest of files is displayed as "type" icons until you purchase and register your
copy of Iconizer. Use the "eXplorer" menu in Embird to enter the registration number
into the Iconizer. Registration number will turn your demo version of Iconizer into full
version.
Fig. 2 Right click on embroidery file icon to invoke the pop-up menu
When you move the mouse cursor to some of the designs in Explorer, and you
depress the right mouse button, the popup menu will appear (Fig. 2). There are four
commands available - "Open", "Print", "Convert" and "Edit". You can choose any
of them to perform the operation. When you double click on the icon, design will be
open in Embird. See also Iconizer tutorial.
